Primary Suite Oasis
Transitional Master Bedroom
Located in Oakland Township

Overview...
This empty-nester couple was looking to renovate their primary suite and breathe new life into the dated space. They wanted to create a cozy bedroom retreat with a calming neutral color palette and pops of glam, utilizing their current four-poster bed. Although their bathroom was a large space, it felt dark and uninspiring with dark wood vanities and an oversized jetted tub with built-in surround that didn’t get used. They liked soft pastel colors and the styles of French Country and Transitional, and wanted this area of the home to feel like an extension of the main living area that we had recently redesigned.

- the Before -

Like most projects it isn't pretty, but it's a start!
The before images show a variety of different furniture and finishes. A mix of styles that needed to be streamlined. And most importantly the feel of the space was not the vibe my clients wanted to come home to. Our job was clear, to help them create an oasis they looked forward to retreating to every day and night.

After

The furnishings in the bedroom were oversized and traditional in styling, and while they were high quality pieces, the style and finish were no longer appealing to the homeowners. The draperies, bedding, artwork and décor were dated and did not create the light and airy oasis feel they wanted. The expansive bathroom had a built-in tub that wasn’t utilized, dark unappealing vanities, and a shower that they wanted to be larger. The separate makeup vanity in the hall also felt dark with limited lighting.
The Problem...

the Vibe

We needed to nail down the look and feel of the project.
Before ordering any products, furniture or materials it's so important to talk 1:1 with my clients on the look and feel they want their space to be. Getting the "vibe" right helps us to be on the same page, as well as visually articulate what my clients often can't. We landed on pastels with a hint of shimmer for a spa-like feel for their new suite oasis.

Flat lays and concept boards allow designers to showcase the exact fabrics, finishes, paint swatches, flooring samples, and other physical elements specified for a design scheme. This provides an authentic and tangible representation of the look and feel.
Presentation Boards

This Oakland Township couple wanted to create a cozy bedroom retreat with a calming neutral color palette and pops of glam, utilizing their current four-poster bed. We accomplished this with adding soft brushed-gold finishes and sparkly textured wallpaper. The plush area rug and custom bedding and draperies added shimmer and texture to the space, and tied in the soft French blue and taupe colors. The capiz shell fronts of the nightstands added to the softness of the space, and the room turned into a favorite hang-out for their dog Lucy!

Metallic Details
It was important to keep a neutral palette that was light and airy but also has a few pops of color as seen in the abstract art. The play on pastels and metallic finishes are seen in the contemporary furniture selections, accessories and decor. This creates a hotel like spe feel perfect after a long day to retreat to.

Bathroom Retreat

We kept the space light and airy for my clients to feel like they were in a hotel suite of their own!

Even though this couple’s primary bathroom was a large space, it felt dark and uninspiring with dark wood vanities and oversized jetted tub with built-in surround that didn’t get used. This remodeled master bathroom features his and hers bright white cabinetry with quartz tops and subway tile backsplashes. The spacious eight-foot spa shower includes a bench seat, niche and glass surround. The subtle pattern of the floor tile adds dimension and visual interest without overpowering the space. A gorgeous canvas art piece adds soft pops of blue, seafoam and purple to the room, creating a spa-like oasis!
