Kitchen Reno
Cohesive Great Room
The Problem...
This couple was itching for a brand new kitchen and fireplace remodel to breathe new life into their home, making it an inviting place for themselves, their kids, and their grandkids. During the initial phase, they wanted to knock down a wall to open up their kitchen and extend their cabinets to maintain more storage space.
- the Before -
Like most projects it isn't pretty, but it's a start!
Desiring a light, bright, and modern kitchen with organic accents to add warmth, they also tasked us with adding new lighting, paint colors, flooring, and materials to transform their space and replace their heavy-looking fireplace surround with modern floor-to-ceiling tile. The plan was to knock down the wall and unify the two spaces together.
After
This empty-nester couple purchased a condo and wanted to renovate it to better suit their needs. It was a blank slate with a lot of vanilla just waiting to be redone. It was time to work my magic and inject their personality into the space. They were drawn to contemporary designs and loved the contrast of black and white with a dash of purple and gold elements. The kitchen is open to the living area so we needed to make these two spaces flow.
The Kitchen...
the Vibe
We needed to nail down the look and feel of the project.
The kitchen was closed off from the living room and felt dark. They didn't like the fireplace or the flooring, as it wasn't a consistent material throughout the main level. So we removed the wall to open things up and added a beam support to bear the load. The kitchen was reconfigured to maximize storage with an oversized island to allow seating for more people.
After
It was important that when their family would visit, they could be in the kitchen and see the living room, enabling them to be engaged in the conversations. This great room is now cohesive with the kitchen with the help of paint and flooring. Luxury vinyl was installed throughout the main floor, which is waterproof and warmer to the touch. Statement lighting pieces were installed over the island, and the unsightly ceiling fan in the living room was replaced by a striking contemporary chandelier.
